MORE than 40 people gathered outside the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) office on Sunday to commemorate the annual women’s global march.
The women’s annual march started last year on January 20 by American women who were in protest against US President Donald Trump’s election into presidency and to show their resistance towards his foreign policies.
FWCC’s co-ordinator Shamima Ali said they marked the event because a lot of US policies resonated with the policies of Fiji and the Pacific.
Ms Ali also said they highlighted issues which they felt were detrimental to human rights during their dialogue on Sunday.
“Issues such as women’s rights, freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom of the media and the kind of foreign policies that our Government is adopting that are detrimental to human rights and to people’s centred development was what we highlighted during our dialogue yesterday,” she said.
